Start here: how many discs do you carry?
Choosing a bag starts with the number of discs. A bag that is too small quickly becomes cramped, and a bag that is too big is just extra weight on your back. Rule of thumb: choose a backpack that fits your current discs plus about five more. Almost everyone’s collection grows during their first few seasons.
- Under 10 discs: a light shoulder bag or a small backpack is enough.
- 10–18 discs: a backpack with proper shoulder straps, a putter pocket and a bottle pocket.
- Over 18 discs: a tour-level backpack with hip support and room for gear.
Besides discs, you will usually carry a water bottle, a towel, a mini marker disc, snacks and rain gear. The longer your rounds, the more storage space and carrying comfort matter.
Disc golf bags for beginners
A beginner gets by with 3–8 discs, so the bag does not need to be big or expensive. The most important thing is that your discs are easy to carry and your hands stay free. You can get a good beginner bag for under €30.
Prodigy BP-4

Innova Discover Backpack
The Innova Discover Backpack is a light, basic backpack for 12–15 discs. The top pocket fits a putter or your wallet and phone, and there is a dedicated pocket for your water bottle.

The Prodigy BP-3 V3 is a light, compact and affordable backpack with every feature you need from a good disc golf bag. It holds up to 17 discs, and for your gear there is a bottle pocket and splash-proof zipped side pockets. The padded shoulder straps have been completely redesigned compared with the previous model. A natural next step up from a beginner bag.
Prodigy BP-2 V3
The Prodigy BP-2 V3 has been a favourite of players at all levels ever since its release. For a mid-sized backpack, it is surprisingly roomy: according to the manufacturer, it holds around 28 discs in total when the spacious side pockets are used. Features include two insulated one-litre bottle pockets, an umbrella holder and taped, water-resistant zips. The V3 version is made from water-repellent nylon ripstop, weighs half a kilo less, has extra padding on the shoulder straps and back panel, and has a larger putter pocket. A good choice when the BP-3 starts to feel too small.
Prodigy BP-1 V3
The Prodigy BP-1 V3 is Prodigy’s largest backpack and the most affordable way to get tour-level space. The main compartment holds 20–26 discs, the top pocket four putters and the front pocket two putters. The expandable side pockets can take around ten more discs or your gear when needed. The backpack also has two insulated one-litre bottle pockets, magnetic-closure accessory pockets, an umbrella pocket, metal support rods and a base reinforced with raised rails. Water-repellent ripstop fabric and a weight of 2.1 kg make it a serious option for competitive players whose budget does not stretch to the premium class.
Discmania Fanatic Sky Backpack
The Discmania Fanatic Sky Backpack is Discmania’s largest backpack and one of the roomiest in the under-€100 price range. The main compartment holds more than 18 discs, the putter slots in the top pocket five putters and the front flap one disc. The convertible side pockets take either water bottles or around ten extra discs, bringing the total capacity to more than 30 discs according to the manufacturer. The backpack has 1.9 cm thick shoulder and lumbar padding, a rigid base with support rails and an umbrella holder. It weighs 1.79 kg.
In the same price range, it is also worth looking at the Innova Excursion Pack, a light backpack for 20–25 discs.

GRIPeq CX1

BX3 or AX6?
If you carry fewer than 20 discs, choose the BX3: it is lighter and is enough even for most competitive players. If you carry more than 20 discs, play long tournament days or want to bring a stool and an umbrella in your backpack, choose the AX6. Both fit the GRIPeq Rain Cover XL Series.
GRIPeq AX5 or AX6?
The AX5 is being discontinued, and the AX6 is its successor. If you are looking for an AX5, we recommend going straight for the AX6. The main improvements over the AX5:

What to look for in a disc golf backpack
- Carrying comfort: wide, padded shoulder straps and back support. On a large backpack, hip support is practically essential.
- Standing upright: a good backpack stands steadily on its own even on uneven ground, keeping your discs dry and clean.
- Putter pocket: a separate top pocket puts your putters quickly in your hand.
- Bottle pockets: a one-litre bottle on each side is a big advantage on a long round.
- Storage space: a rain jacket, snacks, towels and valuables all need their own pockets.
- Materials and zips: they decide whether a backpack lasts two seasons or ten.
- Weight: the weight of an empty backpack is especially noticeable if you carry only a few discs.

Disc golf carts – who are they for?
A disc golf cart is an alternative for players who do not want to, or cannot, carry a heavy backpack. A cart saves your back and shoulders and doubles as a seat. Carts are at their best on flat park courses and during long tournament days. On steep, root-covered wooded terrain, a backpack is more agile.

You can manage without one if you only have a couple of discs, but with as few as 3–5 discs a bag makes playing much easier. An affordable beginner bag costs less than two discs.

Brush off dry dirt and wipe with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Leave the backpack open to dry at room temperature. We do not recommend machine washing, as it puts strain on the padding and frame.
